Summer 2014: We arrived on the island of Palawan via a stay in Hong Kong and domestic transfer through Manila. Flights are cheap and it's a fairly short journey from Hong Kong where we'd been staying with friends.

Palawan was highly recommended to us because it's less renowned for being a party destination and more a nature lovers paradise. This was certainly true. We stayed in two different locations, the first being El Nido where we experienced island hoppingsnorkeling and zip lining.

Our next stop was at the plush new Palawan Astoria hotel, where we took a trip to the underground caves. The Philippines is another place, like Sri Lanka, that would be difficult not to return to.

Where we live in the UAE, we work and socialise alongside Filipino people each day, and both here and in their home country they are always such awesome people.
